And it did so in a privileged setting such as the sea gate of the Citadel. A place that made it possible, unlike Plaça Catalunya, to comply with anti-Covid security measures, such as that the perimeter must be closed, have a capacity control (with a maximum of 120 people) and a control of entry and exit.

This Wine Show of the DO Empordà was the perfect excuse to take to the streets to the villagers of Roses, and is that after the restrictions suffered by the public only need to organize any event for people to present and enjoy, in this case, the wines of the Empordà, but above all, be able to taste these wines with friends and family. Therefore, the result was, always respecting the capacity of 120 people, that more than a thousand went to the sea gate of the Citadel. And there would have been many more if the sun had decided to co-star in the event and if the county confinement had been lifted yesterday.

History, social relations (desired), gastronomy (by chef David Sanglas with quality products with the Girona Excellent badge) and oenology were combined yesterday to become a great Wine Show of the DO Empordà in Roses, which be part of the Vivid Festival promoted by the Costa Brava Tourism Board of the Diputació de Girona, and the support and participation of the Regulatory Council of the DO Empordà, as well as the wineries of the DO Empordà, municipalities and tourism companies in the territory.
As the first deputy mayor, Joan Plana, pointed out,“Empordà wine and wine tourism is one of the hallmarks of the region and also of Roses. Therefore, combining these two elements, the one of patrimonial identity like Ciutadella and the one of identity of the enoturismo and, in general, of the consumption and production of wine, then, seemed especially suitable to do it to the door of sea of the Citadel ”.  

10 participating wineries

The wineries that took part in the VII Empordà Wine Show were a total of 10 (Celler Hugas de Batlle, Celler Empordàlia, Vinyes dels Aspres, Bodegas Mas Vida, Celler Mas Geli, Av Bodeguers, Espelt Viticultors, Castellón Murphy, Celler Gerisena-Garriguella and Celler Cooperativa d'Espolla). This amount is slightly lower than that reached in 2018, when 12 wineries participated, but slightly lower than the average, which is 7. In this regard, Joan Plana noted that“The current exceptional circumstances make it difficult to make a concrete assessment of this edition, as everything related to cultural and gastronomic activity, etc. is adapted to the circumstances and therefore in any case this will be a debate that we can have when we hope that from next year we can resume this type of activity normally. And then one of the topics that can be opened is the ability to attract more ”.

Wineries grateful for its celebration

After last year the representatives of the wineries that were there yesterday at the VII Mostra del Vi de l'Empordà could not be celebrated, they were happy and grateful that the City Council of Roses celebrated this event.
